Zen Pinball 2 PS4 Release: Zen Studios on How it Was Ported to Next Gen, Console Specific Features and More

Zen Pinball 2 for PS4: Zen Studios Discuss Next gen port, controls and more

While Zen Pinball 2 is Zen Studios’ latest offering for the likes of Sony’s PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita and Nintendo’s Wii U, the biggest achievement for the developing team remains with the fact as to how the team successfully ported the game to the next gen PlayStation 4. Now, more has been revealed as to how this port was achieved and how the game will react to the console’s enhanced power and specific features.

Mel Kirk, Vice President of Publishing at Zen Studios, was recently in an interview with Gamingbolt where he revealed how the company brought out the game for the next generation, and what it intends on doing in the coming years.

On asked about the game’s engine and how the game was ported over to the PlayStation 4, Kirk stated: “We use our own internal proprietary technology and it has been evolving over the past 8 – 9 years.”

“The process to PS4 was not that bad for us, we had to adjust a few things in the engine but our engineers are top notch so it was pretty smooth.”

Apart from the game being ported over to the PS4, Kirk also spoke about if the game also takes advantage of the PS4′s touchpad or any other console-specific features. However, he stated that the game “does not take advantage of the touchpad.”

“The game is basically a juiced up port, but we did make major gains in performance, running 1080p @ 60 FPS! Feature wise, you will have to wait for the next iteration of the platform. I guess I keep hinting at this, right?”

Additionally, it was revealed that the game has been optimized on the PS4 to run at 1080p and 60 frames per second to benefit the gameplay and the related presentation.

Kirk stated that game “is running silky-smooth at 1080p and 60 FPS. You will immediately recognize how sharp the artwork looks, better reaction from the flippers and an all-around better looking experience.”

Going forward, the company is also hopeful of a good new year with a host of new content arriving from the team, with Kirk stating the new year is “packed full of new releases – both branded and original content.”

“New Marvel and Star Wars tables will release, as well as new tables based on brands that the entire team is so excited about. I cannot gush about all the details just yet, but it will be fun when we can finally talk about it,” he concluded.

Zen Pinball 2 arrived on December 24 for North America for PlayStation 4.
