Batman: Arkham Origins News - Appearance by Mr. Freeze in Story DLC Teased

Mr. Freeze Expected in Batman: Arkham Origins Upcoming Story DLC

Warner Bros. Montreal's caped crusader prequel, Batman: Arkham Origins, certainly featured a wide variety of members from the Dark Knight's extensive Rogues Gallery, with Penguin, Lady Shiva, Deadshot, Deathstroke, Scarecrow, Bane, Copperhead, Mad Hatter, Killer Croc, Firefly, the Joker, Anarky, and others. While some standout villains were missing, it seems as though gamers will get a peek at one of Gotham City's most cold hearted criminal.

New Years Day visitors to the game's official Facebook page were greeted with the above photo. With the icy stalagmites and the statue clutching a giant diamond, it's not hard to guess just who will be the focus of the game's next DLC, set to hit sometime this year.

The battle against Mr. Freeze in Arkham City was easily one of the great boss fights of the game, forcing players to use just about every trick in Batman's arsenal to damage Freeze's armor enough to bring the mechanized monstrosity down. Adding to the challenge was that effective techniques could be used only once. After that, Freeze would adapt.

Given the fight was a highlight of Arkham City, coupled with the rigid weather that comes this time of the year, it's not hard to see why Warner Bros. Montreal would want to explore Freeze and flesh him out on the studio's own terms. Freeze's origin story is also fairly heart wrenching and dramatic, making him something of a sympathetic character, which makes him rife for story material.

We'll keep you posted once more is revealed about the DLC, and when fans can expect it. We already know that gamers who have the Season Pass will be getting the DLC for free. DLC content already released includes various skins, and Initiation, which shows the training Bruce Wayne went through long before he donned the cape and cowl.

Batman: Arkham Origins stars a younger, not as experienced Batman we've seen in past Arkham games. It showcases the unrefined caped crusader in perhaps the roughest night of his early career. The criminal Black Mask has offered a boatload of cash to whoever can kill the caped crusader, be they masked madmen or corrupt cops.

Batman is armed with more than just his grapnel gun and batarangs. He's actually carrying a few new toys thrown in for good measure, all to help him pummel thugs throughout a Gotham city that's almost double the size of the one seen in Arkham City.

Origins is out now for PC, PlayStation 3, Wii U, and Xbox 360. A follow up, Batman: Arkham Origins - Blackgate, is also available for the 3DS and PS Vita, developed by Armature Studio.
