‘Gotham City Sirens’ Release Date, Spoilers, News & Update: Jared Leto As Joker To Costar With Margot Robbie In ‘Suicide Squad’ Spinoff?
Although David Ayer's "Suicide Squad" received a lot of hate and criticism this year, the film's breakout star Margot Robbie, who played the sultry Harley Quinn, will be headlining a movie of her own. TItled "Gotham City Sirens," it will once again be helmed by Ayer. Since the announcement, fans have been eager to find out The Joker's (Jared Leto) participation in the flick, if at all.
The movie is an adaptation of the comic book series with the same name. The original storyline followed the evil plots of Harley and two other female villains, Poison Ivy and Catwoman. The roles remain unfilled for now but there are rumors going around that Megan Fox of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" and "Transformers" fame may take on the character. Fox has reportedly been ordering "Gotham City Siren" comic books, meaning she could be studying the role.
Will Jared Leto be in 'Gotham City Sirens'?
Given that Harley and The Joker usually come as a package deal in the comics, it's possible that Leto will once again be tapped to appear in "Gotham City Sirens." After all, their tandem was one of the few things fans got excited about and loved in "Suicide Squad."
It is expected that "Gotham City Sirens" will mainly focus on Harley and her gal pals, especially if it takes after the comic books. But given that development has hardly even started, there may still be room for The Joker, even in a supporting role.
According to Nerdist, however, "Gotham City Sirens" might be able to do without him. In "Suicide Squad," Harley fell in love with and became obsessed with Joker but this time around, she'd have grown into a character that can stand on her own. The report pointed out that Harley was too clingy in "Suicide Squad," but this perception of Harley may be corrected in "Gotham City Sirens."
