Diablo 3 Coming to Xbox One? Game Listed for Console's Release

Is Blizzard Working on Bringing Diablo III to Xbox One?

Blizzard made waves when it revealed it was bringing Diablo III to consoles. The game's already available on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and the company is bringing the game over to the PlayStation 4 as well. But that might not be the only next-gen console the company is bringing it to.

A few retail sites have the game listed for a release on Microsoft's Xbox One as well. While a number of sites pulled the listing (Best Buy Canada), others like UK retailer Argos still have the game listed as coming to the platform. Odd, as Blizzard never announced any such plan. But the developer isn't keeping silent on the matter.

VG247 is reporting this statement from Blizzard: "One of our goals is to bring Diablo 3 to as many players as possible, but we don't have any other platform announcements to share at this time." Interesting, because that's not a denial, and if Blizzard's aim is to get the game "to as many players as possible," a Xbox One release would be an obvious method to achieve such a goal.

We'll keep you posted if Blizzard ever declares such a release official. Until then, the only next-gen port planned is for the PlayStation 4, which is due out sometime this year in two versions. Plain old Diablo III, or, with content from the Reaper of Souls expansion as Diablo III: The Ultimate Evil Edition.

Reaper of Souls has been described by Blizzard as a dark and terrifying new chapter in Diablo's story that takes place "from the sprawling streets of Westmarch to the ancient walls of the Pandemonium Fortress," and works as a fifth act for Diablo III

Malthael, the "fallen Archangel of Wisdom," has returned, now with the Black Soulstone, containing the essence of the Prime Evil, in his possession. It now falls to the players to track down and stop Malthael.

Joining Diablo III's classes of Barbarian, Witch Doctor, Wizard, Monk, and Demon Hunter is a new class, the Crusader, one of the "warriors of righteousness who have been hardened through relentless, brutal combat with the foul evils plaguing eastern Sanctuary. In addition to wearing immensely heavy armor and wielding a wide range of cruel and punishing weapons, this new playable class in Reaper of Souls uses battle magic to strengthen allies and weaken foes. A natural walking tank, the Crusader adds power and versatility to any party of adventurers."

The expansion is also meant to highlight the key features of the Diablo franchise, with more emphasis on randomized environments to explore. The enhanced Loot experience allows players to further customize Legendary items, and additional item-crafting options will be available from both the Blacksmith and Jeweler.

An internal testing version of the expansion leaked over the fall, revealing a wealth of information.
