It's rare that two developers of award-winning games come together to work on a project, but that's exactly what's happening between Gearbox Software and Telltale Games for Tales from the Borderlands, and we now know when we'll get a chance to learn about the game. The studios announced that they will hold a joint talk to give the first info on their game at the South by Southwest (SXSW) conference on March 8, at 5:30pm.
Gearbox are providing the franchise for this new venture, having seen a lot of success with the zany, hilarious action shooters Borderlands and Borderlands 2, both critically and commercially. Telltale Games came into the spotlight in 2012 with a video game adaption of the hit TV show "The Walking Dead". Their focus on character, dialogue choices, and permanent consequences drove this episodic title to many game of the year honors and great sales, and they now are looking to take that narrative-driven focus to the borderlands.
This panel promises to show the first glimpses of how the story will unfold, explain how the two studios came to become partners, and allow attendees to ask questions about the world of Pandora and the events of Tales from the Borderlands.
In attendance from Gearbox will be President Randy Pitchford, Borderlands 2 writer Anthony Burch, and Borderlands Franchise Director Matthew Armstrong. They will be joined by Telltale President Kevin Bruner and designer Harrison Pink, with the panel moderated by Nerdist Network's Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V. Gordon.
SXSW takes place in Austin, Texas, and admission is free, but whether or not you can attend, expect some good details to come out of this panel for this highly anticipated but so far mysterious title. Tales from the Borderlands doesn't yet have an exact release date, but will be available for download some time later this year, and you can watch the original announcement teaser below.
