Worms Developer Team17 Announces New IP "Flockers", First in Over a Decade

Worms Developer Announces New IP "Flockers"

Develop has reported (and we learned through Polygon) that the studio behind the long lasting Worms series has revealed its first new intellectual property in over twelve years. The reveal comes from today's PlayStation Open Day event in Royal Leamington Spa, in Warwickshire, England. Team17 has announced that their new IP is called “Flockers”.

PlayStation Open Day is an event where independent developers can gain insight on how to develop for PlayStation platforms. Flockers was announced by Team17 managing director Debbie Bestwick during the event.

"This is the most important game we've worked on in over a decade," Bestwick announced.

Team17 is known for over twenty Worms games - with Worms Battlegrounds coming to both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 later this year. Worms 3 released on iOS devices in April 2013, with the last console Worms game being Worms: Revolution on the PlayStation 3 and Vita, Xbox 360, and PC / OSX.

The studio is also known for the Alien Breed series and Super Frog. The studio's last new IP was a 2001 racing game called Stunt GP for the Dreamcast, PlayStation 2, and PC.

The Worms developer will be formally announcing Flockers sometime next week. No details were given at PlayStation Open Day, only the Flockers logo. If the logo where to give us any hints, it would suggest that the game will have a steampunk aesthetic. Perhaps the game's name is a sign that it will be featuring the Super Sheep from the Worms series. Super Sheep are weaponized animals that act as explosives, so maybe the sheep will retaliate against the worms for being used?

Video games can be so silly.
