Teslagrad Vita: Rain Games Announces Port of Acclaimed Puzzle Platformer

Teslagrad Announced for the PlayStation Vita

Back in July, Peter Wingaard Meldahl, co-founder and lead developer at Rain Games detailed his studio's upcoming PlayStation 3 port of platformer, Teslagrad. The Scandinavian indie developers are porting their 2D side-scrolling platform game where electricity and magnetism are used as gameplay mechanics by a young boy that descends from an ancient group called the Teslamancers.

Teslagrad features a speechless narrative and is set in a hectic world that's ruled by a corrupt king. The game has a heavy steampunk aesthetic and features hundreds of puzzles.

Yesterday, Eduardo Garabito of Rain Games announced that interested PlayStation fans will most definitely be seeing Teslagrad on the PlayStation Vita as well as the PlayStation 3. When originally announced, many requests were made for a Vita version, and now we've got confirmation that the studio is developing one.

Fredrik Ludvigsen, lead programmer of Teslagrad has also taken to the European PlayStation Blog to detail the porting process in making the game work on Sony's portable. Interestingly, he says that it's pretty easy as it offers up less challenges than the PS3, which has less available RAM to work with. The game is being ported from PC and the Unity engine has evidently made “shrinking” the game fairly easy for Ludvigsen and the team.

The only Vita specific feature mentioned is the possibility of using the touchscreen for the game's map.

If you're a fan of the technical talk, Ludvigsen's Q&A is fairly detailed. Teslagrad will be coming to the PlayStation 3 and Vita will release later this year. The game has been available on Steam since December.
