Chroma Alpha Keys: Harmonix Starts Sending Out First Batch For Closed Playtest for Music-based Shooter [VIDEO]

Harmonix Starts Sending out Alpha Keys for Chroma

After Harmonix's recent announcement of Chroma, the world's first music-driven first-person shooter, they also revealed that they would holding a closed alpha for the game. Well wait no longer- the first batch of alpha keys have been delivered! The keys will give you the ability to download and play the early alpha version of Chroma, access to their private forums, and communication with the development team.

As previously announced the game will be free-to-play and PC-only- for now, at least. There's always the chance it will be ported to the PS4 and Xbox One, especially as FTP games begin to gain traction on consoles. They stress that you won't ever be required to spend any money on the game to be competitive though so don't think that they're going to try and trick money out of you.

The most exciting part of the game is clearly the way the music works. Each level will feature a track whose beat is critical to your success. Run or jump or shoot to the beat and your movement and power will be improved by it- everything will flow to the music if things go well, and when you form a team it should be a bit like forming a band- each person can pick a different instrument or sound for their weapon. The sound that pours from the game should be transcending, if Harmonix's previous titles like Amplitude or Frequency are any indication.

While they have received a massive response to the alpha ("overwhelming", they called it), don't despair if you haven't received a key just yet. They plan to roll in more people over time to continue to test the servers, tweaking things and updating the game in response to the players. You can still sign up for the alpha here, so get to it and good luck!
