New The Walking Dead Game On the Way Exclusively for Smartphones and Tablets

Former Disney, Clash of Clans and Angry Birds Developers Team Up for New The Walking Dead Game

Telltale has shown the world that The Walking Dead can be a hit no matter what medium it's on, so it's only logical that other developers are going to follow suit and try to do their own thing with the brain biting brand. Case in point, a new company has announced their own project focusing on the putrified pus buckets, and it's headed to smartphones and tablets.

A new studio, Next Games hasn't done much yet for you to know the name, but the team is made up of staffers who have worked on some damn successful games, coming from Disney, Supercell, and Rovio. You may know the last two as the studios behind some of the most popular mobile games to date - Supercell is behind the tower defense game Clash of Clans, while Rovio is the studio that popularized the notion of turning pigs into porkchops by launching very angry avians at 'em. You'd know it as Angry Birds.

Telltale's The Walking Dead is based in the world of Robert Kirkman's comic, but Next Games project will be based off of the extremely popular TV show on AMC.

According to a press release, "the mobile game will be the first time players see this iconic and enormously popular TV series come to life through gameplay exclusively developed for smartphones and tablet devices."

"We chose to team up with Next Games because of their outstanding creative and technical talent, as well as a willingness to re-imagine the unique and compelling world of The Walking Dead, which has built a significant and passionate global fan community," said AMC president Charlie Collier.

There's not much in the way of eye candy or information on the game as of yet, but as its based on the show, pictures, trailers, and all that good stuff will start popping up at the same time AMC starts marketing the show's fifth season, set to air in October.

"Like AMC's The Walking Dead itself, we're not giving away too many details right out the gate, but I can confidently state it's unlike anything we've seen from The Walking Dead franchise on home or mobile gaming hardware before," said Next Games CEO Teemu Huuhtanen.

Let's hope it turns out better than that other Walking Dead game.
