'Psychonauts 2' Development Update: New Publisher & Gameplay Footage
Their recent release of "Headlander" was met with favorable reviews. Prior to that, Double Fine released a remastered version of "Day of the Tentacle," which also received positive reviews. These recent accolades appear like a good sign for the developer as they attempt to revisit one of their fan-favorite IPs "Psychonauts." Sony has a VR version of the game coming out in the next few weeks. Additionally, the developer also announced some developments for Psychonauts 2"
The crowd-funded sequel has reportedly been away from the media spotlight for quite some time. However, the recent news about Starbreeze Studios publishing the game and contributing about $8 million to the development should please most of its fans. The publisher is also responsible for "Payday 2," the "Chronicles of Riddick" titles and "Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons," notes Game Rant.
Tim Schaefer, Double Fine executive, shared a video detailing the development update for "Psychonauts 2." The video showcases some in-game footage in a test environment set in a dense forest. According to Gamespot, the team's lead designer Zak McClendon explains that the area is not going be featured once the game is complete, but it serves as a demo that allows them to assess how certain models appear.
The announcement of the sequel has already generated a ton of excitement from fans, but its current development status will most likely keep it away from store shelves for a while. When the game was presented via Fig, a crowdfunding website, it reportedly generated $1 million within the first 24 hours of its exposure. It eventually received a total of $3.4 million from crowdfunding alone.
Double Fine obviously understands what their fans want in "Pyschonauts 2." They have reportedly planned to enhance the experience with improving the controls, more polish, better camera control and other tweaks and mechanics that were not included in the original game.
