PlayStation 4 Sales: Sony Raises Price of PS4 and Accessories in Canada

Sony Raises Price of PS4 and Accessories in Canada

Let us offer our kind and gentle gaming brothers and sisters up north some pity, shall we? The Toronto Sun is reporting that Sony's latest console, the PlayStation 4, is about to become a bit more expensive in the land of the Maple leaf. Sony Computer Entertainment Canada has confirmed recently that the PlayStation 4 price will rise from $399.99 to $449.99, effective … now.

Sony attributes their surprise price hike as a means “to respond to changes in the market environment.” The price point of the Dualshock 4 controller and the PlayStation camera have been increased as well, bringing them up by $5.

The PlayStation 4 has been a hard to come by device since its launch in November of last year. Selling over 6 million units since December, Sony's latest generation home console is off to a great start. News like this, though, isn't so great for those Canadian fans waiting for stock to refill to pick up their console. Those that didn't jump on the original $399 price point will have to pay $50 more or acquire the console by other, cheaper means. But hey, it could be worse; the PlayStation 4 in Brazil costs nearly two grand.

Hardware isn't the only thing affected by the potential decline of the Canadian dollar, software sales are also rather pricey for Canadian gamers. Sony says that the upcoming inFAMOUS: Second Son will retail for $69.99. I rarely pay full price for games as it is; I can't imagine how frustrating it would be to spend that much on one game that's not a special edition.

So, any Canadian readers want to tell us how they plan to get around this PlayStation price hike in their home country? Let us know. Share your savings secrets.
