Owlboy Developer Has a Great Concept for a HD Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers

If This is How It'll Look, Then Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers: Remastered Needs to Happen

With Capcom hopping in Doc Brown's DeLorean about this time last year and pulling DuckTales out for an HD facelift, it seems about right for the publisher to focus efforts on another title from the Magic Kingdom. But which one? Artist and Owlboy developer Simon Andersen has a suggestion, and based on an art sample he slapped together, I'm praying someone at Capcom takes notice.

Look at that picture above. Words fail me at how great it would be to play such a gorgeous looking game. But alas, the picture above isn't representative of any game currently in development, just one developer's take on how it could be, and should be done.

While gamers are continuing to play on into their thirties and beyond, I'm sure that not everyone remembers every single game that's been brought upon the world in the last three decades. Coupled with the millions of younger gamers out there, chances are good that not everyone remembers the Chip 'n Dale Resuce Rangers television show, and even less tried their hand at the eponymous game on the NES. Which is a damn shame.

For the sake of comparison, here's what the original title looked like in all its 8-bit glory.

Capcom hit Mickey Mouse paydirt with DuckTales, and Chip 'n Dale was the company's second try with a Disney property, and they knocked it out of the park just as easily. Like other Disney games, it was a basic side scrolling platformer. Pick up an item, hurl it at a bad guy, rinse and repeat. It wasn't the easiest game, but it was far from Ninja Gaiden level frustration. It provided enough of a challenge that my 8 year old self couldn't make it to the end every time, but I was good enough to conquer put the hurt on Fat Cat when the big feline needed a beat down.

I can't say how many games exactly have been given the HD treatment, but with the favorable reviews that DuckTales: Remastered received, I can only hope Capcom will take notice of Andersen's talent and set him to work on making a Rescue Rangers game that looks as good as the pic above. Check out more of his stuff at his Twitter and DeviantArt account.

I think we're about due for yet another Disney game to be given a HD makeover, what say you?
