In Car Mechanic Simulator 2021, players can restore cars that are available, ranging from classic Americana muscle cars to compact cars to modern sports cars, using more than 4,000 car parts.

These cars can either be from those that are already installed in the game, from the downloadable content (DLC) car packs, or from the Steam Workshop where they can download car mods.

One of the said car mods is the one for the 1970 Mercury Cougar, a First Generation pony car manufactured by Mercury, a division of Ford Motor Company, from 1967 to 1970.

After downloading the file for the car mod, and pasting it in the game's folder, players can find, and buy, the 1970 Mercury Cougar at the Junkyard, the Barn, and the Car Auction.

Once they have purchased the car, according to Alex K's YouTube video, they will wash the body and the interior in the Car Wash, then they will move it to one of the Car Lifts that are in the Garage.

From there, they will drain whatever oil that is remaining inside the engine using the Oil Drain machine, as well as the other fluids that are in their reservoirs such as the brake fluid, the coolant, the power steering fluid, and the windshield washer fluid using the Drain Tool, which they can access in the car's Additional Tools.

After they drained the oil and the fluids, they will disassemble the whole car, and get the parts that can be repaired or replaced, until what is left on the Car Lift is the body frame, which they need to repair using the Wielding Machine.

Then, they will repair the car parts they can still use in the restoration project by placing them on Repair Tables that are in the Workshop. From there, they will play a minigame where they need to hit the green tabs in order to fully fix the said parts. They will also need to recharge the battery using the Battery Charger.

On the other hand, the parts that cannot be repaired will be sold for additional Credits instead, which they can use to buy new replacement parts, as well as Performance Parts, if they want to increase the car's Tuning percentage.

Once they have the repaired and replaced parts, they will start reassembling the whole 1970 Mercury Cougar, starting with the engine, which is a V8 1carb OHV. Depending on their preference, they can switch it out with either a V8 2carb OHV, a V8 OHV MAG, or a V8 OHV BP.

In order to build the said engine on the Engine Stand, they will need the engine block, the crankshaft, the camshaft, the pistons with their rings, the crankshaft bearing caps, the rod caps, the oil pan, the oil filter, the flywheel, the clutch plate, the clutch pressure plate, and the clutch release bearing.

They will also need the engine heads, the valve push rods, the rocker arms, the exhaust manifolds, the spark plugs, the engine head covers, the intake manifold, the carburetor, and the round air filter with the base and cover.

They will also need the alternator, the power steering pump, the cam gear, the timing chain, the timing cover, the ignition coil, the ignition distributor with the rotor, cap and clips, the ignition wires, the fuel filter, the water pump and pulley, the crankshaft pulley, the serpentine belts, and the radiator fan.

Once they finished building the whole engine, they will remove it from the Engine Stand, then they will install it in the engine bay using the Engine Pulley.

Then, they will install the car's internal parts such as the gearbox, the starter, the battery, the reservoirs, the brake servo, the radiator, the fuse box and cover with the new relays and fuses, and the fuel tank and pump.

Then, they will install the rest of the parts, including those for the exhaust pipes, the suspension, and the braking system, as well as the tires and rims, the body kit with the doors, the windshield and other glass panels for the windows, the side mirrors, and the parts for the interior such as the steering wheel and the seats.

Once they finished reassembling the whole car, they will fill the engine, the brake servo, the radiator, and the reservoirs with a new batch of oil and other fluids, then they will paint the body with the color of their choice in the Paint Booth.

Then, they will move it to the Test Path room to realign the wheels and to test the newly-installed braking system.

Then, they will move it to the Dyno Test room to tune up the gears in the gearbox and to do a dyno test to check the performance of the newly-built engine.

Once they are satisfied with the results, they can test drive their own 1970 Mercury Cougar, which they can either include in their collection or sell for additional profit.
