‘Apex Legends’ Developers Will Make Three ‘Star Wars’ Games for EA, Lucasfilm Games

Electronic Arts and Lucasfilm Games formally announced that they would be releasing new games based on the Star Wars franchise with the help of Respawn Entertainment, the developers behind Apex Legends.

This is to continue the two video game publishers' plans to bring new gaming experiences that are set within the world full of Jedi, lightsabers, and the Force.

According to a post on Electronic Arts' website, Vince Zampella, the founder and group general manager of the video game developing studio, will oversee the production of the three new Star Wars games, with one of them being a direct sequel to their 2019 action-adventure game, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.

Stig Asmussen, one of the studio's game directors who also lent a hand in producing Fallen Order, will lead a team in making the aforementioned sequel alongside two new developers teams working on delivering additional unique gameplay experienced across multiple genres.

Aside from that, according to Polygon, Respawn Entertainment will also make an untitled Star Wars-based first-person shooting game.

Leading the said production of the first-person shooting game is Peter Hirschmann, another director from the said studio who also helped produce other Star Wars games such as the Star Wars: Battlefront series.

According to Hirschmann, working on a Star Wars-based shooting game alongside Lucasfilm Games is a dream come true for him.

Finally, the said studio would also work on a Star Wars strategy game where, according to The Verge, they would partner with Bit Reactor--a recently announced team of developers that formerly worked for Firaxis Games, who produced the XCOM turn-based tactical game series.

Greg Foertsch, the co-founder, chief executive officer, and creative director of Bit Reactor, as well as the former art director for the aforementioned XCOM series, will be the one in charge of the development of the third game while Respawn Studios will be in-charge for its production.

A Growing Partnership

Douglas Reilly, the vice president for Lucasfilm Games, said that they are excited to continue working with Respawn Studios to make the three Star Wars games. They have demonstrated how they narrated the franchise's story while creating the gameplay based on it for different video game genres.

Sean Shoptaw, the senior vice president for Walt Disney Games, noted that the said collaboration between Electronic Arts, Lucasfilm Games, and Respawn Studios would highlight the trust and mutual respect between the three video game companies, as well as continuing the previous successes made from their partnership with Electronic Arts.

He also added that combined years of expertise, as well as passion within each developer team, would create new thrilling and original games for diverse audiences, including fans of the Star Wars franchise.

Zampella also said that aside from being huge fans of the franchise, they are thrilled in working on new Star Wars game titles that they have wanted to make with Lucasfilm Games for years.

The development from three new Star Wars games, including the sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, is already in the works; however, Electronic Arts and Lucasfilm Studios did not announce what video game platforms these games would be released on.
