'Metroid Dread' Free 2.0.0 Update Guide: New Game Modes, Fixes, and More

'Metroid Dread' Free 2.0.0 Update Guide: New Game Modes, Fixes, and More

Nintendo announced in their recent Nintendo Direct that Metroid Dread would receive a series of free updates within this year, with the first one, the 2.0.0 Update, just released yesterday.

The 2.0.0 Update will bring in the new Rookie Mode and Dread Mode in the platformer while it fixes several of its issues.

The second free update for Metroid Dread, according to WCCFTech.com, will be rolled out this April. This update will add the new Boss Rush game mode that allows players to continuously face the game's bosses.

The free updates, including the 2.0.0 Update, are the recent ones that Metroid Dread received since its release last October of last year for the Nintendo Switch.

In the game, Samus Aran will face familiar foes from her past, including the X Parasite that was supposed to be vanquished in Metroid Fusion after the Biologic Space Laboratories station was destroyed.

She will also face the Extraplanetary Multiform Mobile Identifier (E.M.M.I.) robots that are designed to chase Aran as she ventures around Chozo.

New Game Modes

The 2.0.0 Update will bring in two new game modes in Metroid Prime - Rookie Mode and Dread ModeRookie Mode, according to Comicbook, is the game mode created for players who are new to the platformer.

Once they select Rookie Mode, the missiles available from the start will be increased. When picked up, all of the items that were dropped from the enemies after they are destroyed can now replenish greater amounts of energy and missile ammunition.

They will receive lowered damages from Boss attacks, while destructible Boss projectiles can now be easier to break than usual. They can also make finishing counters when defeating Bosses easier to perform.

On the other hand, Dread Mode is created for players who want to challenge themselves while playing Metroid Dread at a higher difficulty.

Once they select the game mode, any damages that they will take from enemies or traps will lead to an instant Game Over.

To select either one of these new game modes, they need to access "Select Difficulty" while starting a new game in Metroid Dread.

Other Changes, Fixes

Aside from the new game modes, the free 2.0.0 Update for Metroid Dread, according to Nintendo Life, will have new details added to the results screen that will be appearing after clearing the game.

However, these new details will not appear for game files that were started before updating the game.

The update also fixed the issue that forces the game to close after sliding down a surface and touching a frozen enemy.

This issue also causes the error message "The software was closed because an error occurred" to appear after.

The new Rookie Mode will also be available in Metroid Dread's Demo while the scale of its playable area has been expanded, and the Corpius Boss Fight will also be available to access.
