DOOM Beta Access Only For Next-Gen Xbox One, PS4 and PC Wolfenstein The New Order Preorders: Xbox 360 and PS3 Left Out

Want To Play the DOOM Beta? Don't Have a Next Gen System? Too Bad!

Those looking for news about the upcoming DOOM beta access included with Wolfenstein: The New Order found a pleasant (or unpleasant) surprise recently, as there was a detailed FAQ on Wolfenstein's site today.

We knew about the fact that the beta came with the pre-order of the game, but it wasn't yet specified which systems would receive the beta (the game is coming out for PS3/4, Xbox 360/One and PC). Well, now we know: only Xbox One, PS4 and PC will be receiving beta access. From the FAQ:

"Do I need to specify what platform I want to play the DOOM beta on?

"No. DOOM beta access correlates to your pre-ordered Wolfenstein: The New Order platform. If you purchase an Xbox 360 or Xbox One version of Wolfenstein: The New Order, you will receive an invitation to the Xbox One DOOM beta. PlayStation 3 or PlayStation 4 purchasers will receive an invite to the PS4 DOOM beta. All PC purchases will receive an invite to the PC DOOM beta. The DOOM Beta will only be available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC."

That's really curious, because DOOM is set to come out on the same five systems that Wolfenstein is, but it looks like Bethesda is going to force you into getting in on next gen if you want to see what Doom is going to be like ahead of time.

It was also revealed that Xbox One players will need an Xbox Live Gold membership to get the beta, but PS4 players will not need a PS Plus membership.

What do you think of Bethesda's effort to try to move people over to the next gen? Is it fair, considering they're still planning on a full rollout for DOOM and Wolfenstein?
