There's A WWE RPG In Development Which Is Going To Be Announced 'Soon'

The WWE has announced that an RPG based on the pro wrestling company is in the works and will be revealed "soon."

Here are some of the best dream matches that can only take place in "WWE 2K22."

According to GameSpot, the announcement came from Chief Brand Officer Stephanie McMahon, who revealed the news during a recent WWE earnings call. She mentioned how the company has "recently signed a new deal in the RPG space," but declined to mention who the deal was signed.

With this deal, the WWE is cementing its focus on prioritizing gaming right now in the hopes that it will reach a new audience. In the earnings call, McMahon also said that a massive chunk of the company's audience (around 80%) identify as gamers.

Wrestling Inc was among the first to break the news out. They reported that the deal for the RPG was part of the WWE's follow-up on the massive success of WWE 2K22. McMahon hailed the game's success as one of the biggest ways that helped them earn fans' trust back in the IP.

But it's not just their major console release that's making them want to break into the gaming industry outside of WWE 2K. Their mobile game WWE Supercard, also made by 2K, and WWE Champions from Scopely, have also been experiencing massive recent success.

To cap things off, the pro wrestling brand has also reported record revenues for the first quarter of this year. They earned a total of $333.4 million for the period, which was a 27% increase and considered a quarterly record number, as reported again by Wrestling Inc. It can be safe to say that this revenue spike may have been a catalyst for them to sign the deal for the RPG, which can be assumed is a big-budget AAA project.

Aside from saying that the game is underway, there really is no other detail shared about it. But considering how the company has been a long-time partner of Take-Two and 2K, there's a good chance that the same guys that handled past WWE 2K games will also be the ones helming the new RPG.

What Will The WWE RPG Be About?

Considering how they mentioned that it's going to be an RPG, then it is very likely that it will feature age-old RPG mechanics - namely, skills progression, leveling, and a potential create-a-character feature.

Modern WWE 2K games already have a version of this: the career mode called MyRISE. As reported by RealSport101, this year's iteration of the WWE 2K career mode is more than just a step up from the poorly reviewed MyCAREER mode of WWE 2K20. It improves on the previous one by leaps and bounds.

MyRISE was lauded for its implementation of branching dialog choices and side stories, which flesh out the experience and make it feel more complete. It is not impossible that the unnamed pro-wrestling RPG would take cues from this if it wants to be successful.

There's also a chance for the game to be a full-blown role-playing experience, which is something that past WWE games have never officially tackled since the Know Your Role system back in the 2000s, writes ComicBook. But until the official announcement is made, this is all speculation.
