A New Silent Hill Game Could Be In Development At Bloober Team

Rumors Say That A New Silent Hill Game Could Be In The Works

If you were a massive fan of the Silent Hill games back in the day and have been hoping for a new one for so long, then maybe this rumor will get your hopes up.

Multiple sources are saying that a new Silent Hill game is currently in development at Bloober Team, reports PCGamer. And one telling thing is that Bloober CEO Peter Babieno hasn't gone on record to deny the rumors - at least not yet.

For a bit of context, Bloober Team is the studio behind the horror games The Medium and the Layers of Fear series. So them making a new Silent Hill game isn't out of the picture, despite not being the original ones to create the series (that distinction goes to Konami). But a new game in the long-established horror franchise doesn't appear to be the only one in the works.

The rumors came from podcaster NateTheHate2, who tweeted that Bloober Team is also making a Silent Hill 2 remake which features "reworked puzzles and new endings." He caps the rumor off by saying that other projects within the IP are also being developed, which is where the new mainline game is included alongside "side stories."

But this isn't even the first time that rumors started floating, too. In another report by The Verge dated May 16th, another Twitter user called AestheticGamer1 posted four images (perhaps screenshots) from a new Silent Hill game in development. As of this writing, though the images have been copyright-struck and can no longer be viewed.

The copyright strike could very well indicate that there is some truth to them being from the new Silent Hill game. Good thing is that The Verge was able to salvage the screenshots, which appear next-gen in terms of visuals:

These rumors, however, remain unconfirmed. So take them with a grain of salt.

Where Does The Silent Hill Series Rank Among The Best Horror Games Of All Time?

The last Silent Hill game, Downpour, came out way back in 2012 at the tail-end of the PS3 and Xbox 360 generation. But since then, the quintessential horror series hasn't had a mainline release.

Created by Keiichiro Toyama, the Silent Hill series boasts several of teh greatest horror games ever made. That's because these games present a great balance of physical and psychological horror, meaning it's not just the monsters you encounter in real life that are the problem - but also the ones in your character's head, writes VG247.

Aside from the sheer terror that the franchise's monsters can elicit, the games themselves also offer a good amount of replay value. That's because of the deep lore surrounding the environments. You'll find a ton of subtext that you will not likely see during your first playthrough, alongside deep psychological discussions and even pop culture references that will have you braving that creepy mist again and again.

Now, imagine a game like that being made in a modern engine, like Unreal Engine 5. That's where your imagination would start flying about how amazing the atmosphere can get, just like in this recent demo:
