Insider Says Hideo Kojima's Next Game Is Called Overdose

Hideo Kojima's Next Game Is Reportedly A Horror Game Called Overdose

It's been a while since legendar developer Hideo Kojima said anything even remotely related to his next game. But according to a very reputable insider, the game now has a title and a lead star.

Japanese video game designer, writer, director and producer Hideo Kojima speaks on stage to present his new video game "Death Stranding" during the Tokyo Game Show in Makuhari, Chiba Prefecture on September 12, 2019

DualShockers reports that the aforementioned insider, Tom Henderson, claims that Kojima Productions' next game is titled Overdose. It will also reportedly star Margaret Qualley (Death Note, Once Upon A Time In Hollywood), who was also a part of Kojima's first post-Metal Gear project, Death Stranding.

According to information shared by Henderson, Overdose is reportedly a horror game that will have both first-person and third-person POVs. He also claimed to have already seen "initial footage" from the game, which is where he discovered Qualley's starring role as a still unnamed female character wearing a blue dress. She previously played the character Mama in Death Stranding.

Aside from that, Henderson says that Overdose seems to be a new IP - despite its apparent similarities to Death Stranding. He posted his leaked information on the website TryHardGuides, the link to which he shared via Twitter:

In the TryHardGuides article, Henderson described what he had seen in the footage - which he says was sent to him "under request of anonymity." The video apparently starts with Qualley's character wearing a blue dress while walking through dark corridors in third-person, holding a flashlight. The footage ends with a jump scare, followed by "GAMEOVER" and the iconic term "A Hideo Kojima Game" and the apparent title: Overdose.

While this might sound a bit weird to some folks, Hideo Kojima himself has openly said he wants to make a horror game someday. According to GameSpot, the legendary game developer wants to make a game that "uses a revolutionary method to create terror that doesn't just make you pee your pants, but crap them."

Considering just how accurate Henderson's insider information can be (he did leak several accurate info about Battlefield 2042 before it came out), then this might stoke a fire in long-time Hideo Kojima fans.

Is This The Long-Rumored Xbox Exclusive Hideo Kojima Game?

There's no indication from Henderson that Overdose is connected to the long-rumored, potential Xbox-exclusive game that Kojima is said to be negotiating with Microsoft.

Amidst rumors that PlayStation is going to possibly acquire Kojima Productions, new leaks pointing to the Xbox exclusive game resurfaced back in April. In a report by VideoGamesChronicle, game journalist and VentureBeat reporter Jeff Grubb said that the initial deal between Xbox and Kojima "was still on." He further adds that this doesn't mean PlayStation "couldn't have acquired" Kojima Productions."

Either way, a lot of fans seem to think that an Xbox-exclusive game from Kojima isn't a good thing. There's an ongoing petition on Change.org which calls for the still-unannounced game to be canceled, and it has already earned 1,404 signatures at the time of this writing. Whether that game exists or it is even Overdose, however, no one can say for now.

This is a developing story.
