Some sources claiming to be close to the action started spreading rumors that Street Fighter 6 crossplay is a thing. And now, it's been basically confirmed.

Capcom announced the arrival of "Street Fighter 6" soon along with the 10 fighting game titles for the Fighting Collection series.

As reported by GamesRadar, two journalis said they heard it directly from developer Capcom that the next Street Fighter game will allow crossplay between different platforms. Fighting game YouTuber Maximilian Dood came upon the information after playing a copy of the game during the Summer Game Fest. He then posted the news on Twitter, to the clear delight of fans:

Furthermore, the information was corroborated by game journalist Andi Hamilton, as part of GamesRadar's hands-on preview of the game. It wasn't made clear how Street Fighter 6 crossplay will work, however. It comes out on PC as well as both last-gen and current-gen consoles, so there's a lot of potential arrangements there that haven't been announced yet.

With this confirmation, the upcoming instalment of the long-running fighting game franchise will be the first modern one of its kind to have crossplay available from day one, writes DotESports. However, it's not really the first time that the feature will be included in a Street Fighter game at all.

Street Fighter V also had crossplay, although it was limited only to PlayStation and PC players. Street Fighter 6 crossplay will have a far bigger pool of players to accommodate this time around, as it finally brings the series back to Xbox for the first time since the days of the legendary Xbox 360.

Capcom announced SF6 back in February with a teaser trailer, showcasing long-time fan-favorite fighter Ryu against newcomer Luke. If you're unaware of who he is, here is a YouTube video from TheLolHounds 2.0 describing the character and what he's all about:

Street Fighter 6 is scheduled to release for the Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, and PC later this year. Capcom hasn't given a definitive date as of yet.

More News About Street Fighter 6

Aside from crossplay, another thing that's been confirmed for Street Fighter this year is rollback netcode - something that its predecessor already had.

For the unaware, rollback netcode might sound like something so technical. But its purpose is actually quite simple, according to The Loadout. All it does is help online matches run as smoothly as possible. To do so, it treats both player inputs as local ones on their hardware. The game then predicts what the player will do next, resulting in a very responsive overall experience that is critical in the extremely competitive environment of fighting games.

To cap things off, the game already has a handful of confirmed fighters in its roster. According to Eurogamer, players can already expect a total of six:

  • Ryu

  • Luke

  • Jamie

  • Chun-Li

  • Guile

Guile was the most recent one to be added to the list, as he was just announced via an official gameplay trailer on the official Capcom USA YouTube channel. As for the other leaked ones, we're not going to talk about them yet until they've been confirmed.
