New Resident Evil 4 Remake Gameplay Revealed

A Few Seconds' Worth Of Resident Evil 4 Remake Gameplay Was Revealed

When the Resident Evil 4 remake was first revealed at State of Play, Capcom didn't actually reveal much aside from an atmosphere-heavy trailer. But the developer/publisher just corrected that during its own live showcase.

New Resident Evil 4 remake gameplay was finally revealed at the Capcom showcase, which IGN says confirms a new gameplay addition: Leon can now aim his gun while moving. It's a tiny detail that didn't make the original RE4 game dear to the hearts of fans, considering how the action can make you want to run and aim your gun at enemies at the same time.

The short 2-and-a-half-minute presentation was presented by game director Yasuhiro Anpo, and producer Yoshiaki Hrabayashi. According to them, the remake was designed with the goal of "preserving what makes the original title special." However, it will come with modern elements that will allow it to be enjoyed right now.

In the trailer, you can see Leon walking through a very atmospheric, dense forest. As per the developers, they wanted to "nail the feeling of loneliness and fear of not knowing what lies ahead." And they want to make it even more pronounced compared to the original 2005 game, whose visuals were basically limited by the technology of the time.

Leon then starts aiming his gun while he moves, and eventually finds what looks to be an abandoned shack deep in the woods. However, that's actually where the Resident Evil 4 gameplay reveal ends - nothing else follows. It is literally just under a minute of footage showing the protagonist moving through the world. However, Capcom would obviously reveal more as the days press on.

Aside from the gameplay, the devs also talked about how the game's enemies, the Ganado, have been "completely re-designed" for their return. All of these enemies (including the ones infected with Las Plagas) alongside the recognizable locations in-game will be portrayed using the updated RE Engine, writes GameRant.

The Resident Evil 4 remake will be launching first on the PS5 on March 24th, 2023. Xbox Series X/S and PC versions will come later.

Is The Resident Evil 4 Remake A Good Idea?

As of this writing, there are two triple-A remakes coming out for the PS5: RE4 and The Last Of Us Part 1. Numerous people are already saying that the latter is already a "blatant cash grab" from Sony, but what about the former? How is Capcom going to justify making and selling it at a premium?

According to PCGamer, the fourth Resident Evil game may have been re-released as much as Skyrim has in the past several years. But they're also arguing that it might not even deserve a remake at all, because there's really not much to improve on it due to how good the original game is already.

But even if some fans might consider this a "cash grab," people are still buying it at the end of the day. It's all business for Capcom, and judging by how the previous two RE remakes performed (that of RE2 and RE3), then the Resident Evil 4 remake will be no different.

Just look at these YouTubers reacting to the reveal trailer's appearance at State of Play, and you'll have a rough idea of how the game could perform sales-wise:
