Resident Evil Village

In the recently concluded Capcom showcase, a new DLC for RE Village was revealed titled Shadows Of Rose and with it, an official third-person camera mode which means you don't have to use mods anymore. According to GameSpot, going back to third-person is a big deal for the entire franchise after numerous mods for RE 7: Biohazard - the first in the series to go first-person, popped up.

This DLC announcement comes after producer Tsuyoshi Kanda revealed that Resident Evil Village has already shipped 6 million copies globally - a massive feat considering the game has only been out for over a year. Here is the video presentation tackling the Shadows Of Rose DLC, alongside new content coming to The Mercenaries mode and, of course, the third-person camera view:

In order to get the camera mode, however, you'll need to buy the DLC which comes out on October 28th, writes IGN. But even if you can soon play the game in third-person, it seems to be that protagonist Ethan Winters will keep on obscuring his face at all times. This is despite numerous mods actually showing what his face model looks like.

Either way, the official addition of the third-person mod will basically make any other third-person mods obsolete on PC beyond October 28th. These mods started popping up shortly after Resident Evil Village was released, as showcased here in this YouTube video from IGN:

This also makes the game mostly full-circle now, as Capcom is also adding VR support for PSVR2 on PS5 soon.

What Is The Shadows Of Rose DLC?

As previously mentioned, all of this comes with the release of the Shadows Of Rose DLC expansion which features a story set 16 years after the events of the main game, writes GameSpot. It features a now grown-up Rose Winters who now has to grapple with the existence of her supernatural abilities.

It basically picks up from the ending scene during the base game where Ethan Winters finally gets to his daughter and eventually entrusts her in the care of Chris Redfield. It ends with Winters buying time for Chris, Mia, and Rose to escape, as seen here:

Now grown up, Rose is searching for a way "to break free from her curse," which is basically her ability that was born from her parents' exposure to the mutagenic moss which was a massive part of RE Village and RE 7: Biohazard. As per a blog post on the PlayStation blog, it looks like the Shadows Of Rose DLC will also be playable in third-person. Here's the official description of the DLC:

16 years after the events of Resident Evil Village, Rose enters the consciousness of the Megamycete. [Rose's] journey takes her to a mysterious realm where memories of the past return to create a warped and twisted world of nightmares.
