The Best Resident Evil Games, In No Particular Order

Here Are The Best Resident Evil Games To Play

The Resident Evil games are once again in vogue after a constant stream of new reveals and updates revealed in recent showcases. As such, one might be wondering which games in the franchise are even worth playing at this point - especially the ones that are getting major upgrades soon (i.e. Resident Evill Village and the Resident Evil 4 remake.

Well, if you're looking for the next RE game to play (more so if you're a first timer), here are the best titles in the franchise. Take note, however, that this list is written in no particular order just like a lot of similar guides on the web. So without further ado, let's begin!

Resident Evil 4

When talking about the best Resident Evil games, the original 2005 release of RE4 is almost always hailed as the best in the franchise by a longshot. According to The Washington Post, RE4 is a "practically perfect video game" with some publications (namely Edge Magazine from the UK) even going as far as calling it the "greatest video game ever made."

Despite the smattering of praise on this game, fans have actually developed something akin to a love-hate relationship with it. Many think it is what started Capcom's apparent obsession for zombies over actual fear. Nevertheless, it is still regarded as a masterpiece and must-play by many - and there's no denying that.

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard

Biohazard was the beginning of major changes to the franchise, as it is the first one to go first-person instead of the third-person mode that the RE series has always known for. Considered as a "soft reboot" for the franchise according to GamesRadar, RE7 did away with the multiple storylines of RE6 and came with a focused narrative headlined by the extremely unsettling Baker family.

This game was revered for its accessible nature. Even if you're not familiar with the overarching lore of the franchise, you can just jump in and not miss out on anything major (via GameRant).

Resident Evil 2 Remake

The original RE2 was another instant classic from Capcom. But it understandably is now a bit rough around the edges (it came out in 1998, after all). As such, many fans were expecting big things from the 2019 remake, and the developers didn't disappoint.

In IGN's 8.8/10 review, they praised Capcom for a fantastitc job of bringing back all the best bits of the original game and bringing it forward to 2019 in terms of everything: sound, gameplay, and visuals all in one. The remake was also considered a "return to form" for the franchise, calling it "real survival horror, where it always seems like you're just barely scrapping by."

Some fans might write this off any "best Resident Evil games" list just for being a remake, but tell that to those that gavve it an excellent 8.9 User Score on Metacritic.

Resident Evil Remake

This is the game where it all began - and it's far less blocky-looking than most fans remember. For the remade version of the original Resident Evil game that came out back in 2002, Capcom took a lot of the framework of the original game and refined them even further. It might not be jaw-droppingly impressive in terms of visuals today, but even the now 20-year-old remaster of the OG PS1 title will get your blood pumping just as its granddaddy did in the years before.

To say that this game will forever be on the list of the best Resident Evil games ever is an understatement. However, the 2002 remake and the subsequent HD remaster isn't even the end of it, as a fan remake of the entire game is in the works. Gameplay uploaded to the Residence of Evil channel on YouTube showcases 8 minutes of the game - complete with the over-the-shoulder camera system that's defined the later titles in the franchise:
