In a recent post to his personal Instagram account, Diesel said how Ark 2 is something that "real gamers" should be excited about. He also said how Survival Evolved is "the best game out right now" and that his son introduced him to the game "many years back," while also announcing that the Ark franchise is actually going to TV and the big screen (a topic for another time):

Ark 2 is actually not the first time that the Fast And The Furious actor dabbled into video games,.writes ComicBook. He has credits for The Chronicles Ofjavascript:; Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay, Fast & Furious Crossroads (basially two games based on movies he starred in) and Ubisoft's Wheelman. But while these games were never really any good, Ark 2 looks to be far more promising.

The sequel to the hit game Survival Evolved was revealed out of left field with an in-engine trailer at the recently concluded Xbox showcase. In it, he was shown riding an accessorized T-Rex as his character Santiago, alongside his daughter Meeka, played by Moana's Auli'i Cravalho. The in-engine trailer is confirmed to be running on Unreal Engine 5, and it ends with a confirmation that the game will come out next year:

If you want to play the game, however, you'll need an Xbox Series X/S or PC for that. That's because Ark 2 has been confirmed as a launch exclusive for Xbox and Windows. Whether it's a timed exclusive, however, is still unclear as developer Studio Wildcard isn't actually a member of the Xbox first-party studio roster.

Either way, the reveal of Ark Survival Evolved's sequel could be welcome news to long-time fans of the survival title, which surpassed a major sales milestone in 2019 with 16 million units shipped worldwide (via GamesIndustry.biz).

More Details About Ark 2

After being first announced in 2020, there was not a lot of information regarding Ark 2 aside from the cinematic trailer revealed at the Game Awards 2020.

Whatever is known, though are the most obvious bits of information. There is evidence that the game will be a timed exclusive for current-gen Xbox consoles and PC just like its predecessor. As per GamesRadar, Survival Evolved was released back in 2015 as such, being a member of the Xbox Game Preview program.

The game's story is set after the events of Survival Evolve's final paid DLC expansion, Genesis Part 2. That expansion ended with the Genesis ship blowing up into two pieces. One half crashed into a gas planet, and the other half remained in space. From that half comes a Santiago clone being fired from the derelict ship into an unnamed Earth-like planet, which could very well be the planet that Ark 2 will be set on.

As for gameplay mechanics, IGN has confirmed that Ark 2 will be a third-person title featuring "Souls-like combat." This is already a stark difference to Survival Evolved, which featured both third and first-person modes. Aside from that, the sequel seems to be far more narrative-focused than its predecessor.
