Here Are Space-Based Games You Could Play While Waiting For Starfield

Waiting For Starfield To Come Out? Play These Games While You Wait

Starfield, Bethesda's most ambitious game and first-ever new IP in over 20 years, has been delayed to next year. We all know this. It's understandable that you'd be so excited for a new project from such a long-time industry giant, but you'll have to wait.

It doesn't mean, however, that the wait will have to be boring. If you're looking for the best space-based games like Starfield to play while you wait for it to come out, you're in the right place. Here are four of the best you can try out now.

The Outer Worlds

Made by Obsidian Entertainment, The Outer Worlds is basically everything that people want out of Starfield but in a far more stylized presentation. It is a first-person RPG where you get to land on and explore three very unique planets (far smaller than Starfield's scale, but it's more than fine) after creating your own character.

You also get a wide variety of quests that you can tackle in any order you want, writes Tom's Guide. The game's open-endedness is part of its overall charm, even if its scale is not even close to a tenth of what Starfield is set to offer. Call it "the Poor Man's Starfield" if you will, but it's far, far removed from being a bad game. It's a really good one.

Mass Effect Legendary Edition

Starfield and Mass Effect are far, far different from each other in a lot of aspects. In the former, you get to play as literally anyone you want. They even made Starfield to have a mute protagonist so you can roleplay as much as possible. While in Mass Effect, you only ever get to play as one: Commander Shepard. But that's all you'll ever need.

Commander Shepard is one of the most iconic video game characters of all time, and that's a massive understatement. His/her story is defined by a ton of player choice that will bring about consequences later on, writes ScreenRant. Couple that with Legendary Edition being an improved, modernized version of the original trilogy for modern consoles, and you're in for a great story that plays out smooth as butter on the new hardware.

No Man's Sky

So many people are calling Starfield "No Man's Skyrim," and for good reason. Its space-based exploration, coupled with the customization options for your ship and heaps of explorable planets basically make it very similar to Hello Games' galaxy-trotting adventure. But the game has come a long, long way since its disastrous launch, writes SportsKeeda - and it is now a premium game to play as you wait for Starfield to come out.

The developers have added tons upon tons of new content to No Man's Sky since release. They're far too many to list in this one article, but here's a video chronicling the game's fall and rise to massive prominence just because of the efforts of its development team - who just never gave up on their project.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart

Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart is absolutely nothing like Starfield. Let's just get that out of the way. It's not an RPG and it is not even an open world game. But there are far too many good things in this PS5 exclusive to miss out if you don't opt for it.

Rift Apart allows you to also be a galaxy-trotting character exploring different planets as you see fit. However, it is also hailed as one of the best games of the current generation, due to how it marries great visuals with excellent platforming gameplay and technical wizardry. The game has earned an 88 Metascore and an 8.5 User Score on Metacritic, which should already say something about how amazing it is.
