There Will Be NO New Sly Cooper, inFAMOUS Games Coming For Now

Sucker Punch Is Putting Sly Cooper And inFAMOUS In Their Back Pocket

Sorry, Sly Cooper and inFAMOUS fans: these two franchises will not see the light of day anytime soon.

This rather sad development was announced straight by developer Sucker Punch Productions, who said that the two currently defunct game series will be shelved as they focus on another project. As reported by DualShockers, though, the studio was adamant that they're not completely abandoning the two IPs and are open to making them again down the line.

The announcement was made by Sucker Punch on their website. They said that the decision was due to how the studio has grown over the last 25 years since it opened. Projects like Ghost Of Tsushima have seen Sucker Punch crafting even bigger and more complex games, which the studio says will require the full attention of all hands on deck.

For now, their plans for legacy franchise aren't too big. Sucker Punch said that they'll be performing maintenance on the servers powering the UGC (user-generated content) missions for inFAMOUS 2. After the maintenance work, these servers will be moved "to a new home" where they'd be kept running a little bit longer. That's until Sucker Punch finally decides to put them to pasture.

Aside from that, the studio is also working on making the Cole's Legacy DLC for inFAMOUS Second Son available to all territories covered in the PlayStation Store. As for Sly Cooper, they didn't mention anything - meaning the franchise is going to stay defunct. Sucker Punch also said that no other studio is working on an inFAMOUS or Sly Cooper game.

Sony, however, notably tried to keep the Sly Cooper series alive even if Sucker Punch - a known first-party PlayStation developer - didn't. They put a different studio at the helm of 2013's Sly Cooper: Thieves In Time, which while a relatively well-reviewed game wasn't a blockbuster, writes PCGamer.

This then puts the boot down on all those rumors saying that Sly Cooper is coming back for the current generation. It's also proof enough that even with corroboration from so-called renowned leakers, rumors will always have a 50-50 percent chance of turning out to be nothing.

What Is Sucker Punch Working On?

Well, for them to put two of their most recognizable IPs on hold means they're working on something big. Really big. And there's reason to believe that it's Ghost Of Tsushima 2.

'Ghost of Tsushima 2' On the Works? New Job Listings Hint on its Possibility

A job listing from Sucker Productions could hint that a "Ghost of Tsushima" sequel is coming in the future.

Back in June, we at GameNGuide reported that several job listings posted by Sucker Punch could hint at the sequel to their open-world samurai epic. The listings are calling for an AI systems designer, senior multiplayer mission designer, and encounter designer to work on a triple-A "open-world game, with a particular focus on melee combat and stealth."

If the "particular focus on melee combat and stealth" statement still doesn't give it away, nothing will. Ghost Of Tsushima is a melee-heavy title that also makes use of stealth mechanics, and it's open world. What else could the project be? Unless, of course, it's a totally brand-new IP.

Nevertheless, the aforementioned still-unannounced game is already in the works. But it might be a few years more before we hear anything on it.
