RUMOR: Someone Might Be Making A Black Panther Game

Jeff Grubb Says There's A Black Panther Game In The Works

Fresh off the hype surrounding the recently released trailer for the Black Panther sequel, a new rumor has emerged saying that there's a standalone game already in development.

As reported by GameRant, the game was teased by game journalist Jeff Grubb. He mentioned the project to be potentially in the works after seeing the trailer for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which was itself first revealed at San Diego Comic Con. The game, if rumors are true, will be the first standalone one in development if we're not counting all the other video game appearances for the King of Wakanda.

Here is Grubb's tweet, announcing the next episode of his Game Mess Mornings podcast on Twitch:

His podcast is scheduled for July 26th at 11 AM ET, so be sure you check it out if you want to hear more "details" about the Black Panther game. Other than that, this is a developing story.

For those who might not know Jeff Grubb, the guy is more or less in the same league with other insiders such as Bloomberg's Jason Schreier and Tom Henderson. He's been sharing numerous leaked information about big games such as the upcoming Dragon Age 4 (which he says will launch within the next year or so).

Perhaps his biggest accuracy was that of the reveal of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, which he rumored would be revealed in May. This turned out to be accurate, as the Fallen Order sequel was indeed shown off with a cinematic trailer before the month ended. So his latest claim about the Black Panther game does have credence to it - far more than any other person online who claims to be an insider.

For now, there are no further details about the game floating about - no news of who's developing, who's publishing, or when it will be out. But maybe it's only a matter of time before the project is officially announced.

What A Standalone Black Panther Game Could Be Like

Despite not having had a standalone triple-A title featuring him, T'Challa has been seen in video games in the past. The biggest example is the War For Wakanda expansion for Marvel's Avengers, obviously.

While the Avengers title has been universally maligned, War For Wakanda was a well-reviewed expansion when it came out. In YouTuber Phoenix Fandom's review, the DLC was praised for how T'Challa himself played and worked within the game:

The Black Panther was, according to another review by The Sixth Axis, "a joy to play." But his moveset, while having a few unique ones, didn't feel too different from everybody else in Marvel's Avengers. They claimed that there is enough nuance in his moves to keep the combat fresh and varied with every encounter - something that the main game suffered from.

War For Wakanda wasn't the saving grace for Avengers, but it did put it back a little bit on the map. But if the Black Panther game can be made in the same mold as that of Insomniac Games' Spider-Man series, then it could be a great one. For now, let's wait for Jeff Grubb's info.
