New PlayStation Game Rumored In The Works From Ex-Until Dawn Devs

There's A New PlayStation Title Being Made By Former Supermassive Devs

Apparently, there's a new PlayStation game (perhaps a PS5 exclusive) in the works at Ballistic Moon: a studio with former developers who worked on the horror title Until Dawn.

According to WCCFTech, the studio co-founded by former Supermassive Games senior programmer Chris Lamb is working on a "major" game being made using Unreal Engine 5. The project is said to be for a "big AAA publisher," though they declined to mention who exactly that is - for very clear reasons. Either way, the game looks to be deep in development based on a handful of content posted online recently.

A few other former Until Dawn devs from Supermassive are also working with Lamb on the new Unreal Engine 5 project. This includes motion capture director Joshua Archer and creative director Neil McEwan. Archer, for one, looks to be quite busy as images of an actress in a mocap suit have been posted to Ballistic Moon's official Twitter account last August 10th:

Twitter Error

The images are of actress Nicole Miners, who did some facial capture work for a character in Ballistic's new PlayStation game. Now, there's not a lot of information to gleam from the series of images in the tweet above. But one thing that could hint at what this game is all about is her facial capture data.

Games like Until Dawn and Supermassive's most recent game, The Quarry, make heavy use of facial capture to portray a slew of real emotions that no handcrafted animation and rigging can give. So this could be a hint that Ballistic Moon's new PlayStation game is a horror title that focuses on making difficult choices in the heat of the moment.

To cap things off, ResetEra user posted a few screenshots of Ballistic's posts indicating they're hiring more devs to join the team. In it, they confirmed that the game is indeed being made using Unreal Engine 5. So there's a high chance that the game will be exclusive to the PlayStation 5. But until an official announcement is made, this is all pure speculation.

Best Games Like Until Dawn That You Can Play

So there's a new game in the works from former Until Dawn devs. If you loved that game, there's a chance that you'll love what they're cooking up right now. But before that new game launches, here are a few other games like Until Dawn that will have your heart racing as you make difficult choices:

  • Detroit: Become Human - This game is not a horror title per se, but it personifies the branching narrative game genre in more ways than one. Literally almost every single decision you make will affect the entire story as you play through it. The story is set in a future where this question is posed: can robots "feel" emotions the way humans do? It's going to have you think, that's for sure.
  • Life Is Strange 2 - Another non-horror game, Life Is Strange 2 is also one of those interactive, choice-driven games that will have you thinking way too deep and overanalyzing your situation before you make your choice. It follows the story of two brothers forced to run for their lives after the younger brother develops supernatural abilities (via GamesRadar). The game's stylized art and amazing music choices complement its thought-provoking narrative at every single turn.
  • The Inpatient - This PSVR title puts you in the world of Until Dawn at the Blackwood Sanitorium, which was featured at the end of the game. You play as a patient with amnesia, and your entire experience will be peppered by interactive tech magic as NPCs react to anything you say due to voice recognition. But while Blackwood was shown at the end of Until Dawn, this game is actually a prequel.
