Overwatch 2: Roadhog Gets a Much-Needed Rework in the Game’s Recent Update

A new patch for Blizzard's hero shooter Overwatch 2 just went live and it brought some pretty huge changes, particularly to the game's resident big man, Roadhog.

Roadhog is one of the original heroes in Overwatch. He uses a Scrap Gun and a hook to reel enemies in for the kill. What's more, his ultimate would have him turn his main weapon into a killing machine that is able to knock opponents back when hit.

Because Roadhog has not received any major changes in the past few years, the Overwatch 2 developers thought that it's now time to give some love to one of the game's most popular tank heroes. As a result, Roadhog got a much-needed rework in the recent update.

What are the Changes?

The rework brought a lot of interesting changes to Roadhog's kit. First and foremost is the tank hero's Scrap Gun. Back then, Roadhog's main weapon had two different firing modes: the Primary Fire shoots out small pellets like a shotgun, while the Secondary Fire is more of a concentrated shot that is typically used to finish off enemies that are running away.

Now, the Scrap Gun only has one firing mode where a shrapnel volley of four large projectiles is released at the center of the shot. Each shot deals massive damage to enemies that are within close-to-mid-range.

Another major change is that Roadhog's "Take a Breather" ability is now activated by pressing and holding the right mouse button. Furthermore, there is now a resource meter that shows how much healing the Breather has left before it needs to be recharged.

According to the devs, Roadhog's Take a Breather is now a resource-based ability that can be used more frequently than before, giving the tank hero more flexibility on the battlefield. However, the said ability must be recharged when it's completely depleted.

Aside from the noteworthy changes to his Scrap Gun and Take a Breather, the game's latest patch has given Roadhog a new ability called the "Pig Pen." When used, Roadhog launches a trap that not only damages nearby enemies, but slows them down for three seconds as well. This provides him the utility he needs to help his team win. Being able to slow down enemies in a relatively large area gives Roadhog the potential to turn the tide of battle.

Bug Fixes

Overwatch 2's latest patch has also resolved some notable issues. For one, players who hop off of Lifeweaver's Petal Platform before it's fully raised will no longer be immune to EMP. Besides that, the bug that caused Sombra's Hack ability to not work as intended when enabled as a Toggle has been squashed.

Here are the other bug fixes implemented in this patch:

Heroes

Lifeweaver

  • Fixed a bug that caused Life Grip to cleanse the Orb of Discord.

Sombra

  • Fixed an interaction that could result in Sombra being pinned by a charging Reinhardt instead of teleporting to the thrown translocator.

  • Fixed a bug that resulted in Invisibility failing to recast after exiting combat.

Zarya

  • Fixed an issue that could result in Zarya's projected barrier failing to deploy.

So, what can you say about Roadhog's latest rework in Overwatch 2?
