Army of Fortune Review

Whatever you envision when you think of a game built with blockchain technology doesn't come close to what Army of Tactics offers.

This real-time PvP battle strategy game contains none of the complex operations and pointless activities we came to expect with the first generation of Web3 games. It's just a well-built mobile game that manages to deliver plenty of fun in intense tactics-heavy battles.

Build your army and battle it out.

Army of Tactics is a game of conquest. Your mission is to build an army of heroes and units, which you then take into battle in arenas to face other players in real-time PvP battles.

Each battle involves a maximum of eight fighting units on each side and lasts a maximum of five 30-second rounds. Whoever wins the most rounds wins the battle.

Gameplay

Army of Tactics

Army of Tactics gameplay is what you would expect from a well-designed PvP battle strategy game. The battles unfold in real-time and make for a pretty impressive visual spectacle.

You have an army of eight fighting heroes and units at the start of every battle. Each unit/hero has a unique ability and role on the battlefield.

Assigning a unit to the battlefield consumes resources, of which you have a limited supply, with each unit/hero consuming a different amount depending on their abilities. Generally, the more powerful the unit, the more resources they will consume in a fight.

Winning a battle is a matter of choosing your units/heroes while carefully managing your resources. Spend too many resources in the early rounds, and you won't have enough left to deploy your fighters in the latter rounds.

At the same time, spend too little, and your opponent will easily overpower and defeat you. This encourages the player to carefully select which units to deploy depending on the stage and state of the battle.

When you win a round, the game rewards you with 15 resource points. On the other hand, a loss will earn you 25 resource points.

This creates an interesting dynamic where, sometimes, it makes sense to lose a round so you can have enough resources to put up a fight in the next.

Talk about strategy!

Overall, the game pushes you to adopt different tactics throughout a match and rewards you for being quick on your feet. This makes playing it a fun experience.

Progression

In terms of player progression, enough goes on outside the Arena to justify all the battles you fight.

For example, winning battles earns you in-game coins. Spend these to upgrade your existing army and unlock more units, characters, and maps.

You also have ways to earn coins outside of battles. For example, on the first map, there is an iron mine and a forge. You mine iron, which you can then sell for coins, or forge it into nails, which you can also sell for more coins.

Conclusion

Army of Tactics is a fun PvP battle strategy game that's easy to pick up and enjoy playing. It has nice visuals and sound design. The gameplay is fun, and the player progression system makes it all the more worth it.

Perhaps most impressive is that while playing this game, you won't even realize that it uses blockchain technology.
