There is no doubt that Fortnite is still one of the most popular battle royale games to this day. Despite the various collaborations, crossover events, and new content, players are having a hard time enjoying the game nowadays, mainly because of the new "speed-reducing" measures that Epic Games may have put in place. Because the company did not say anything about the recent changes, the community has gone back and forth on whether these measures are a feature or a bug.

Feature or Bug?

At the start of Fortnite Chapter 5, Epic Games implemented some movement tweaks as a way to accommodate new character animations. This got the community riled up, with some saying that character movement no longer feels smooth after the changes.

Epic Games heard the player base and increased the movement speed in an update that was released before 2023 ended. Although the increase was fine, it seems that it is short-lived as players are now discovering that character movement feels clunky once more.

As pointed out by Redditor PiccoloIntrepid4491, players can feel the slowness in movement when they initiate a sprint, jump, and then sprint again. "It feels so jittery and rough I wish the speed-reducing feature just didn't even exist," said the disgruntled player.

Since there is no word about this from the company, the players are in a heated debate as to whether this slow movement is caused by a bug or if it's intended behavior.

Redditor Tof12345 opined that it is probably related to the tweaks the company made earlier in the season. This means that the jittery pace of going from Point A to Point B is likely a feature that was just not disclosed.

Another person has a different opinion regarding the matter. Redditor boyawsome876 said that this has been a longstanding issue that Epic Games still has not fully addressed.

At the time of writing, Epic Games has not made a statement yet regarding the slow movement issue. Players will just have to report it to the company until it is addressed.
