Path of Exile: Grinding Gear Games Imposes Harsher Penalty for 'Muted' Accounts

Developer Grinding Gear Games launched a minor update for Path of Exile recently. Patch 3.23.1c implemented a major change that will probably deter players from using profane language or engaging in toxic behavior.

Harsher Penalty

One of the biggest changes implemented in Patch 3.23.1c is a much stricter penalty for muted accounts. For those who are new to Path of Exile, an account can get muted if the owner uses obscene language, engages in toxic behavior, or spams numerous walls of text in the global and social channels in the game.

Back then, players who had their accounts muted would only be unable to use the global or social channels for a limited time. But now, players will no longer be shown as "online" on the trade website. This means that if they have some items up for sale, other people might not be able to see what they have on offer due to this harsher penalty.

Even though players only get their accounts muted for 12 hours on the first offense, that is still a considerably huge amount of time, especially for those who have items posted on the trade website.

While GGG"s intention for imposing a stricter penalty on muted accounts is good, some players have expressed their concern over the potential for abuse. According to user Shake811, players can get "auto-muted" if they have been spam-reported by others. Hopefully, this is not the case, but only time will tell.
