The Revelation

In an interview with IGN during the Game Developers Conference (GDC), Vincke provided insights into the game's development process. He disclosed that during the early stages of development, there were discussions about including characters who ultimately did not make it into the final game. One such character was Ketheric Thorm, a significant villain encountered by players in Acts 2 and 3.

The Potential Twist

According to Vincke, players could have had the opportunity to convince Thorm to join their party, offering a unique dynamic to the gameplay. This twist would have allowed players to interact with Thorm in a different light, potentially altering the course of the game's narrative.

Development Challenges

Vincke also discussed the challenges faced during the development of Baldur's Gate 3, including the need to make tough decisions to streamline the game's content. He mentioned various elements that were cut or altered during development, such as locations and story arcs, to ensure a cohesive and engaging experience for players.

Despite the wealth of content and ideas explored during Baldur's Gate 3's development, Vincke revealed that Larian Studios has no plans for Baldur's Gate 4 or any additional DLC. Instead, the studio is shifting its focus to a new project outside of the Dungeons & Dragons universe.
