Ubisoft Quietly Launches The Settlers: New Allies on Steam, Bringing Together City Building, Strategy, RTS

The Settlers: New Allies Launches on Steam After Releasing Last Year

Ubisoft quietly launched its own city-builder game, The Settlers: New Allies, on Steam alongside other titans in the genre, making the strategy game available for more players after it was initially released for other platforms and online stores last year.

The title is a reboot of the 1993 Settlers series and offers players the chance to control one of three factions. It challenges them to build a medieval civilization from the ground up and gives them nothing but a small skeleton crew of followers at the beginning of each run.

Players are forced to scavenge for the most basic and meager of resources but will later be able to engage in large-scale warfare. This allows them to command in real-time while strategically managing their society back home.

The game was first launched in 2023 and has been available for PC players via the Epic Games Store as well as the official Ubisoft Store. However, as more and more titles from the Ghost Recon and Division studio slowly made their way into the Valve store, including Far Cry 6 and Watch Dogs Legion, it only made sense for The Settlers: New Allies to join them, according to PCGamesN.

One of the game's major updates last year was released in December and was called the Blessings of the Elders update. It brought a lot of changes to the strategy game, including a new game mode, new hardcore missions, a new building, an update to the existing production chain, and many more.

The new game mode was a Sandbox Mode that let players explore islands and expand the size of their settlements without having to face the pressure of scenario objectives or AI enemies. However, Bandit Camps and Places of Interest are still available for players to experience and encounter.

Previous Major Update

The update for The Settlers: New Allies also added two new hardcore missions that add restrictions to regular mission objectives. These include a time limit or buffed-up enemies to face off. The Elder's Tomb requires players to defeat all enemies inside in only 45 minutes and in Widow's Peak, they start with no military units and a pre-placed Academy.

It also upgraded the Forester building, which now more closely resembles the Forester from previous installments in the franchise. The building will now plant trees in its vicinity, which can then be used as natural wood forests discovered during exploration, said WebWire.

At the time of the game's release, it marked the first time that the franchise had made its way to a home console. While many fans were eager to try the new game out, there were others who criticized it for lacking any innovation and being too linear.

Some of the game's maps make certain resources harder to acquire or put them far away from the player's starting hub. The greater the distance to a resource, the more time is needed for it to be moved to town to supply the construction of the structure that needs it. This is what the game considers to be a higher difficulty for the most part, according to Digitally Downloaded.
