Sunkissed City is an urban-based life sim that was made by a former developer of Stardew Valley, Arthur "Mr. Podunkian" Lee.

Lee shared another teaser of the game in development and showcased a new feature that he has been working on, wind whirlies. The developer shared footage on Apr. 23, 2024, of the game in the middle of an autumn day in Apollo City.

The post had a caption saying, "Playing around with power lines and Windwaker style wind whirlies." For those who have never played The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, these are basically gusts of wind that are seen moving through the screen, giving the game a cozy feel.

Sunkissed City still has quite a long way to go before it launches for players worldwide but the game's Steam page lists a Q4 2024 release window. It also seems that Lee has already started putting the finishing touches on the stunning and vibrant life sim.

In the latest footage, players were shown weather effects, NPCs walking around the city, various businesses, and cars traveling the roads. The game looks very much like Stardew Valley but in a city setting, according to GamesRadar.

Sunkissed City comes as Stardew Valley has inspired a lot of game developers to create their own indie titles. The popular farming life sim is still as hyped up as it was when it was released as the developer, ConcernedApe continues to bring innovative but memorable updates.

Another Stardew Valley competitor is also set to release on Apr. 26, 2024, which is Rusty's Retirement, which follows a robot enjoying his workless days tending to a farm. The game is an idle farming game that lets players grow their farms while doing other things.

As Rusty lives out his retirement on his farm, he will carry out jobs that players set up for him as the day progresses. Rusty's Retirement also features a focus mode that lets you control just how much of the farm you see and how quickly your crops grow.

With all of these factors, the game seems to be the perfect idle game that you can occasionally go back to while having a busy day. One noticeable thing about Rusty's Retirement is that it also runs on MacBook, which means there would be no compatibility issues on some work laptops, said Gaming Bible.

A Stardew Valley-Like Life Sim

Going back to Sunkissed City, the game was first teased last year and transforms players into a "Peco Pioneer" for the friendly Pico corporation. You are tasked with fostering a relationship with Apollo City's vibrant community and marketing Pico's new eco-focused initiative.

The game seems to follow Stardew Valley's foundations, featuring the same top-down look but is less focused on production and farming. One of the few things that players will be able to do is decorate their homes with furniture, fancy wallpaper, and others.

Players will also be able to fish on the beach, tend to gardens that are cultivated by "plant-punks," forage for herbs and other stuff while hiking, and tackle a variety of jobs. These include warehouse loading gigs in exchange for some money, according to Rock Paper Shotgun.
