Helldivers 2 Balance Patch: Arrowhead Game Studios Will Take More Time To Bring Quality Update

Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead Game Studios said that it will take more time to work on the highly popular game's next balance patch to make sure that it meets players' expectations.

This means that the upcoming update will be delayed in order to make sure that everything included is properly prepared. Helldivers 2 is a third-person squad-based shooter that has faced significant controversy over its prior balance patches.

Many players expressed their thoughts that the changes that Arrowhead Game Studios made to the game have been too severe. Despite Helldivers 2 being a relatively new game, it already has a history of weapon balancing and updates that many describe as a roller coaster ride.

The latest patch for the game introduced several nerfs to various weapons, significantly reducing the effectiveness of many. An example of this is the Eruptor, which was previously a fan-favorite weapon.

In one of the patches, Arrowhead Game Studios made the weapon have a reduced magazine capacity down to half of its original. It also had its explosion damage nerfed, leading many players feeling dissatisfied, according to GameRant.

That particular change to the weapon resulted in widespread backlash across the community with players saying that the update diminished the fun they were having. Community manager Thomas Petersson recently confirmed on the Discord server for Helldivers 2 that the development team needs more time to work on the upcoming update.

His statement was brief but clear, saying, "More time. We're cooking," and came in response to a question a player made regarding the patch's release timeline. It also suggested that the team is actively working on the latest update but is not yet ready to release it to the main game.

The delay of the latest patch might have been partly due to the need of the developer to address previous patch issues. Arrowhead Game Studios is likely considering player feedback to restore some of the original appeal of several weapons.

Taking More Time To Work on Changes

Helldivers 2 director Johan Plestedt also said earlier this month that they may have gone too far in some areas. He added that he will talk to the development team about their approach to the game's balance, said IGN.

Petersson, also known as Twinbeard, said that they want to take some more time for the latest update and potentially other future patches. He said that patching a lot is risky as it easily disrupts workflow and takes more resources than initially expected.

The community manager also noted that nothing detailed has been decided yet in response to another user asking whether balance patches will be released bi-weekly or monthly. Arrowhead Game Studios' announcement of taking more time to work on the latest patch has gone down relatively well among players.

This comes as there are many who believe that the change to the Eruptor warrants the weapon being reverted to its original state. They argue that since the nerf, the major issue is that the item has lost its status as one that could help facilitate more build and loadout variety, according to VG247.
