'H1Z1' Developer Jimmy Whisenhunt Talks About Combat System On Reddit

'H1Z1' News Keeps On Rolling In, As a Dev Takes To Reddit To Talk Combat

After last night's H1Z1 stream, the news about the upcoming zombie apocalypse survival MMO is just flowing in today from the game's creators.

After Sony Online Entertainment President John Smedley posted some new details on the game's official subreddit today, now developer Jimmy Whisenhunt is answering some questions on Reddit

His comments are centered all on the game's combat, as he's looking to address some questions that he's been fielding "17 times per hour." First, about the combat system, and whether it will be as fast as it was in the stream:

"No, there are a few features coming online that will allow me to start tuning for slower combat. This includes things like 1:1 head movement but slower arm movement, ready states for melee (just right clicking), and weapon specific melee anim sets. Weapon/tool swap times will also be drastically slower than shown."

So you won't be able to take your weapons out on the fly like they did in the stream last night. And what about the most famous way to kill a zombie, with a single headshot?

"Right now, sure, but if you've got a .22 or .380 it may not."

Interesting. So it seems that the zombies in H1Z1 won't really deteriorate, even though the game is set 15 years post-apocalypse. He also confirmed that there will be head turning without moving your whole body, so you don't need to make noise and attract zombies. And lastly, we've only seen some standard handguns so far, but what about more military grade weapons?

"Right now our focus is getting weapons that you could feasibly find in a civilian's house. You'll find some nice AR-15s (semi-auto), shotguns, 1911s and the like. Not saying we won't eventually add some military weaponry, I'm not naive enough to assume people wouldn't have made their own modifications or stolen equipment during the events leading to our games state of the world."

So that's quite a bit more to chew on, and Smedley already promised another livestream next week, so we'll have more news on H1Z1 sooner rather than later.
