HTC One M8 Appealing to Mostly HTC Fans, but Pulling Some Apple and Samsung Customers Too

The HTC One M8 is a very attractive and high-performing device, and it's this combination that's pulling customers from other smartphone makers and helping HTC retain its own fans.

A new report from UK-based CompareMyMobile shows that those switching to the One M8 are most likely content current HTC users, though some users are being converted from Apple and Samsung products as well.

An impressive 24 percent of users upgrading to the One M8 are actually current iPhone users, which is news that HTC will definitely be happy to hear. The Taiwanese company also be glad that it is retaining satisfied customers as well: 46 percent of those switching to the One M8 are upgrading from the older HTC devices.

21 percent, the lowest amount from one of the other major groups, are switching over from a Samsung Galaxy device. Battling Apple for market share is a difficult task, but fighting it out for Android audience is a tight contest too, especially when you consider the marketing presence of each company. I've written before about Samsung outspending HTC on marketing by hundreds of millions, meaning the smaller company is fighting an uphill battle for every one of those customers it converts.

Still, HTC is succeeding. Moving customers away from products and brands they have been loyal to is no easy task, and the numbers show that a healthy percentage are being drawn in by HTC. The One M8's quality and positive reception is a definite factor here, as is HTC's increased marketing efforts. Hopefully for HTC the trend will hold up in the long term: it needs the One M8 to be a financial success.
