The next "Mortal Kombat" game may have a special surprise for fans in the future.

Specifically, there may be a potential crossover with the iconic "Killer Instinct" game that could give the franchise life based on a teaser by "MK" creator Ed Boon.

Next 'Mortal Kombat' May Crossover with 'Killer Instinct'

Ed Boon posted a cryptic poll on his X account, which talked about potential plans for a different game that was a previous competitor of his video game in the early 1990s.

That said, many fans have taken this as a hint of a potential crossover coming to the next "Mortal Kombat" game, which they claim to be "underway" already, with Boon having significant control over the content.

Apart from the iconic original characters from the "Mortal Kombat" franchise, the next mainline game would also possibly feature famed characters like Tusk or Fulgore and more.

While being two different franchises, "Mortal Kombat" and "Killer Instinct" share similarities, starting off with the arcade fighting game format and both being notably violent.

According to ComicBook Gaming, the speculation from fans also stems from the "Killer Instinct (2013)" release as many players requested the game's characters to join "Mortal Kombat X" as special DLC additions.

Ed Boon's Teaser: Is the Crossover Coming?

However, Boon has directly responded to fans asking about this potential crossover, saying that his poll about the revival of "Killer Instinct" is "not a plan" for the franchise's future.

This also effectively turns down the possibility that it would be part of the next "MK" game.

That said, ComicBook Gaming said that this post from Boon could kickstart interest in the game and help revive the franchise, potentially as an Xbox exclusive in the future.
