'Sunset Overdrive' Xbox One News: First GAMEPLAY FOOTAGE & Details From Insomniac Team Release [VIDEO]

First Sunset Overdrive Gameplay Footage Revealed, and it Looks Awesome

Earlier today I wrote about the first details for Sunset Overdrive, the Xbox One exclusive open-world acrobatic shooter from Insomniac Games. We learned about the story and gameplay for the first time, but couldn't see it in action--until now.

Microsoft has chosen to follow up the news with the first gameplay footage, releasing a video narrated by someone from the Insomniac team. The four-minute video shows off what it looks like in motion, explains some game mechanics, demonstrates various weapons, and tells us a little about the story.

We already learned from Insomniac earlier that you'll be fighting off mutants caused by a new energy drink, and that fluid combat and travel will be a core part of the gameplay. Seeing it in action definitely supports that notion--a variety of crazy guns (such as those that shoot teddy bears attached to dynamite, and a record-launcher) is at your disposal to launch into groups of enemies while you zip around rails and buildings above the action.

Zany character factions have taken advantage of society's collapse, setting up their own bases of operations within Sunset City. A Bushido-based group who live by samurai culture are one such faction shown in the video, as well as the Fargarths, a collection of live-action role-players who are turning their hobby into a way of life.

Even the respawns are "next gen", with the player's character placed back into the game world after dying in a multitude of ways. You'll be thrown onto the map out of a truck, walk out of a sarcophagus, and be dropped off by a UFO (along with more, I'm sure). Check it out in the video below, and stay tuned for more details.
