EA Access On PlayStation Not Happening Because Sony Doesn't Think It's A Good Value For Fans

If you were wondering why EA's new subscription service will only be available on Xbox One, it's because Sony was not a fan of the program.

EA Access Subscription Service Announced, Details Explained

EA Access will allow subscribers to play games from a selection of EA titles, provide a 10 percent discount on the Xbox Store, and give limited early access to some new games for $5 per month (or $30 for a year). When reached for comment by Game Informer, Sony simply explained it did not think the program was worth it to the company or its fans.

"We evaluated the EA Access subscription offering and decided that it does not bring the kind of value PlayStation customers have come to expect," a Sony representative told GI. "PlayStation Plus memberships are up more than 200% since the launch of PlayStation 4, which shows that gamers are looking for memberships that offer a multitude of services, across various devices, for one low price.

"We don't think asking our fans to pay an additional $5 a month for this EA-specific program represents good value to the PlayStation gamer."

It's understandable that Sony doesn't feel it should have gamers paying for a subscription on top of the subscription they need to play online, but that would also be up to each individual. EA Access is in beta to a limited audience now, with the full release coming "soon". Based on these comments, though, I think you can expect it to stay away from Sony's consoles for the foreseeable future, if not permanently.
