The LittleBigPlanet 3 Gamescom Trailer Is All Happiness And Rainbows

Ninja Theory is no stranger when it comes to sword-based games, having put out Devil May Cry and the PS3 exclusive Heavenly Sword. The company is proud to announce that they are self publishing and releasing Hellblade themselves to in order to maintain complete control over the process.

On a blog post, Ninja Theory employee Dominic Matthews gave the reason for going at it this route: "Certain types of game are very difficult to make for AAA retail without being watered down or otherwise compromised for a mass audience. This is especially true of sword-based combat games or games of a distinctive style or unusual subject matter. We want to make a smaller, more focused game experience that is uncompromising in its combat, art and story, and deliver this digitally at a lower price."

He is calling the game an "independent AAA" title.

Hellblade takes place in the world of Celtic myth and will follow protagonist Senua, a very intimidating female warrior who must embark on her own mystical quest through a hellish underworld. I don't know much about the Celtic afterlife, but it sounds like it would be a harrowing experience for all involved.

The company is being very open about the development of Hellblade. The main site is a wealth of information and behind the scenes footage, including character portraits, sketches and developer updates. It makes you feel like you're a part of the process.

Watch the announcement trailer below.  No release date has been set for the PS4 title.
