iPhone 6 Waterproof Tests: How Apple's New Phone Holds Up When Submerged In Water

Sink Or Swim: YouTubers Test Out How Waterproof The iPhone 6 Is

How waterproof are the new iPhone 6 and 6 Plus? As it turns out, they can withstand a little bit of water, but you won't want to keep them submerged for too long.

The iPhone 6 Has Already Seen Its Fair Share Of Drop Tests

Perhaps one of the most entertaining parts of a new iPhone launch is seeing various YouTube channels beating up their shiny new devices in the name of consumer knowledge. Different channels were able to get drop tests posted within hours of the phone's launch. It wouldn't be surprising if they were dropping it on the concrete a block away from the Apple Store where they picked it up.

Now that the phone's been out for a weekend, though, early purchasers have had the chance to do some more strenuous tests, including informally testing the phones' waterproof rating. In the first test, YouTube channel ElectronicsBreak gave the two models a quick, 10-second water test, equivalent to the worst case scenario of accidentally dropping your iPhone into a pool or the toilet. The iPhones both fared pretty well, both shortly losing audio but gaining it back within minutes.

Apple Is Rumored To Have Another Reveal Event Planned For October

TechSmartt, another YouTube channel, gave the iPhone 6 a bit more of an extreme test, leaving the iPhone underwater with the stopwatch running and seeing how long it can last. In this test, the phone actually runs well until it hits the 50 second mark. At that point, graphic glitches start popping up, and the phone proves to be almost completely fried after 90 seconds.

So both iPhone 6 models look to stand up fairly well to water unless you're planning on leaving it submerged for a full minute, which no smartphone company is likely to recommend.
