Apple News And Rumors: New MacBook Air Specs Show Thinner Fanless Design, Reversible USB Port, And Three Different Colors?

If The New Report About The MacBook Air Is True, It'll Be One Step Closer To Just Being A Big iPhone With A Keyboard

A new 12-inch MacBook Air rumored to release next year will include several substantive changes to its design and hardware, according to a new report by Apple leaker Jack March.

The report, which is already being considered legitimate by several outlets, states that the new 12-inch MacBook Air is "noticeably thinner" thanks in part to its fanless design, citing that a new Intel processor will allow the notebook to stay cool without sacrificing performance. The new MacBook Air will also be thinner in terms of width. The report claims that the device leaves little room on either side of its keyboard and places the speakers above the keys. Current MacBooks either place their speakers on both sides of the keyboard or hidden under the keyboard.

The report also says that the 12-inch MacBook Air will include the reversible USB technology that Apple had been rumored to be implementing in their devices last month.

Once Upon A Time We Thought The iPhone 6 Would Come With A Reversible USB On Its Charger

Apple's MagSafe charging system is also rumored to be leaving the new MacBook Air, the report says, though this details is more tenuous than the others. Whether this means we'll get to see some sort of inductive charging for the MacBook Air remains to be seen.

Last week, this same source claimed that the 12-inch MacBook Air would be releasing in 2015 and, much like new iPhones, would come in Apple's three different colors, Gold, Silver and Space Gray. The new notebook is no doubt still in the design process if it's shooting for a mid-2015 release, so all of these details are certainly liable to change. If true, though, the report is still a good indicator of the direction Apple is planning to take with the design of its product line.
