Draw Something and Zynga $200M Deal, Plus Funniest Drawings

Zynga, the social network game developer, has purchased OMGPOP for $200 million.

OMGPOP, the creators of 'Draw Something'  has become a recent sensation with its digital version of Pictionary being downloaded more than 35 million times.  The app saw 30,000 downloads in its first day going on the market and averaging three drawings per second.  Draw Something shot up the ranking charts and enjoyed sitting at the top spot for both the Apple Store and Google Play.

Users play Pictionary with a partner using their mobile device screen as a canvas.  The drawer is given three choices to draw.  Users then use their finger to draw the object as quickly as possible and hope that their partner can guess correctly.

Zynga's newest acquisition was criticized as a hasty move, purchasing a company with only one popular hit title.  OMGPOP has only experienced small success since being founded six years ago.  Its Draw Something app has caught the attention of Zynga and will now look for ways to continue expanding.  Zynga's acquisition of Words with Friends proved to be a beneficial move as the company was able to double the number of players in several months.  The same approach may be used for Draw Something.

Draw Something is a free download, but Zynga will look into ways of monetizing the addictive app.

Check out some impressive and funny drawings done on Draw Something.
