iPhone 6 Plus Production To Increase As Demand Rises For Larger Phone, Report Says

More People Are Wanting The iPhone 6 Plus, So Apple's Going To Start Making More

As more and more people are expressing interest in the new iPhone 6 Plus over the standard iPhone 6, Apple is starting to shift production away from the smaller model and towards making more 6 Plus units, 9to5Mac reported.

Apple Sapphire Glass Supplier Files For Bankruptcy

The information comes from a Digitimes report that cited Apple supply chain sources as saying that iPhone 6 shipments will begin to decrease by as much as 3 million or 4 million units to convert more production power and resources over to manufacturing the 6 Plus.

Of course, the effects of this decision won't be immediately felt on the retail side of things. The Digitimes report notes that Apple's suppliers don't currently have the inventory to produce more iPhone 6 Plus units, and the manufacturers don't have the resources to produce more units now, either. But now that the decision has been made to shift production focus, store shelves should start to see more iPhone 6 Plus boxes in due time.

Next Apple Event Rumored For October 16

Ever since the launch of these two phones, the iPhone 6 Plus has suffered from less supply than the basic iPhone 6. After just one day of preorders, the 5.5-inch phone was already on a month-long shipping delay. This could have been the result of the rumored production hangups that caused the 6 Plus to briefly go back to the design drawing board. Or maybe Apple simply underestimated the demand that the larger phone would command.

Whatever the case, production for the iPhone 6 Plus is slated to increase now. And with Apple's two new phones releasing in China next week (where the 6 Plus demand will likely be much higher according to 9to5Mac), this move might be necessary to make sure Apple's supply problems don't get any worse.
