Samsung Releases Galaxy Note 4 Drop Test Video, Shows Off Machines That Automatically Perform Hundreds Of Drops

The Galaxy Note 4 Takes A Beating In Samsung's New Drop Test Video

The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 phablet will be making its way to Western markets this month, and Samsung is trying to get consumers as excited as possible with a series of videos showing off the Note 4's durability. Last week, we got a bend test video, the one where Samsung introduced the robotic butt whose job it was to sit on phones over and over. This week, Samsung is putting its new phone through a different wringer with a drop test video.

The highlight of the video is seeing all of the different machines Samsung uses to try to break its own phones. The first machine is a standard quick-release drop test that is performed from many different heights. These tests, while basic, were filmed with an army of cameras (we get a quick look at the setup in one shot) that gives us a Matrix-esque slow-motion, spinning view of a Galaxy Note 4 slamming onto a granite floor.

Samsung's next machine is an automatic drop test capable of picking up and dropping several phone models hundreds of different times. Samsung then expands its automated phone mistreatment with a tumble machine that simulates what would happen if a Galaxy Note 4 fell down that set of infinite stairs from Super Mario 64.

The Galaxy Note 4 seems to come out of these tests without any obvious damage, which you would expect from a Samsung promotional video. It's still interesting to see the kinds of smartphone torture machines that Samsung uses during development.
