Grab your silver paintbrush and prepare your canvas. The 2012 PS3 indie title The Unfinished Swan is coming to PS4 and PS Vita next week.

The game, already beautiful, is getting the 1080p treatment it so richly deserves. The title was announced via the PlayStation blog. "The Unfinished Swan puts you in the fairytale story of a young boy chasing after a swan who has wandered off into a surreal, unfinished kingdom." In the game, you quite literally uncover the world. With the help of your paintbrush, you create your surroundings and discover the secrets underneath, much like how a sculptor 'unearths' the statue in a slab of marble.

"That, however, is just the beginning, and we wouldn't dare spoil the rest. The Unfinished Swan will challenge your belief in confronting the unknown. It will spark your imagination, and keep you exploring to see what lies beyond the blank "whitespace" exposed before you. You may even encounter the eccentric King who built this realm."

The game was fairly well received in its PS3 iteration, nabbing a BAFTA award for Game Innovation and another for debut Game for its creator, Ian Dallas.

It has been a long and twisty road. Dallas created the concept back in 2008 and was on the shortlist for finalists at the annual Tokyo Game Show, ultimately losing but gaining the attention of Santa Monica External Studio which helped create Giant Sparrow, the company that ultimately molded and released The Unfinished Swan.

Not every game has to be about killing. You may find that the simple act of creation, of uncovering, will bring more satisfaction than a thousand bullets.

If you already own a copy of the game via the PSN, you are entitled to these new versions for free via Sony's Cross-buy promotion. No need to repurchase. The Unfinished Swan is out next week on Tuesday, October 28 and will retail for $14.99.
