Warcraft Movie Full Cast And Details Revealed At Blizzcon 2014, Two New Teaser Posters Show Legendary Horde And Alliance Weapons
You have to hand it to director Duncan Jones. It's not hard to keep even the smallest of details regarding a movie secret in this day and age. And yet, despite working on Warcraft, which could be the best video game adaptation ever, we know precious little about any of it.
All that changed yesterday during Blizzcon when Jones and several technical members of his crew debuted two official posters and released the names of the cast. We knew that Ben Foster was playing Azeroth's Guardian, Medivh, but at last, we get to see who he's playing against.
The film takes place before the events of World of Warcraft, though it is unclear whether or not the movie will focus on the happenings during The First and Second Wars (Warcraft II and Warcraft: Tides Of Darkness).
The main cast is broken down as follows:
Anduin Lothar (Travis Fimmel)
The lead protagonist for the Alliance, Lothar is a war hero who has sacrificed everything to keep the people of Azeroth safe.
King Llane Wrynn (Dominic Cooper)
King Llane is the leader of the Alliance city of Stormwind and a beacon of hope to its people in a time of darkness.
Medivh (Ben Foster)
Known as 'the Guardian,' Medivh is a mysterious and reclusive protector who wields formidable power. He was born cursed and would eventually betray his friends, Llane and Anduin and bring forth, unwittingly, the Burning Legion and the Orcish horde.
Khadgar (Ben Schnetzer)
Khadgar is a gifted young mage, embarking on a daring search for the truth. He will later be known for his whiskers.
Lady Taria (Ruth Negga)
Taria is the royal Queen of Stormwind, King Llane's great love and most trusted counsel.
Garona (Paula Patton)
Caught between the Alliance and the Horde, Garona is a strong-willed survivor who must decide where her true loyalty lies.
Durotan (Toby Kebbell)
The lead protagonist for the Horde, Durotan is the noble Chieftain of the Frostwolf Clan, battling to save his people and his family from extinction.
Orgrim (Rob Kazinsky)
Orgrim is Durotan's right hand and a brave warrior destined to wield the Doomhammer: a weapon of orc legend.
Blackhand (Clancy Brown)
Known as 'The Destroyer', Blackhand is one of orc-kind's most fearsome and titanic war chiefs.
Gul'Dan (Daniel Wu)
Gul'dan is a supreme orc ruler, fueled by a dark magic that even he cannot control.
Now, it is unclear how the events will play out. All of these characters have met some sort of fate or another and we do not yet know if, say, Lothar will meet his end at Blackrock Mountain at the hands of Orgrim Doomhammer.
It's a long way until March 11, 2016, when the film hits theaters. I am sure we will learn a lot more about Warcraft in the intervening time.
