Total War Attila Release Date Announced, Pre-Order Bonus For Viking Factions Available

The Creative Assembly has announced that Total War: Attila will launch on February 17, 2015.

Our Super Smash Bros For Wii U Review

The standalone game (based on Rome II's engine) is bringing an entirely new campaign based on the infamous Hun leader alongside new factions, some of which have already been revealed. The release date is global, and applies to both physical and digital copies of the game.

The developers also announced a pre-order bonus, giving new factions to fans who buy the game early. The Viking Forefathers Culture Pack will add three clans--The Danes, The Jutes and The Geats--to the game as playable factions. These groups have their own units, missions, cultural and faction traits, and offer a far north starting location for the campaign. The pack will be available to purchase as DLC for $7.99 after launch, if you don't grab it before release.

Given the state of Rome II at launch, it may be best to hold off on purchasing Total War: Attila immediately. It's enticing to get free factions, but The Creative Assembly's last game was both riddled with bugs and poorly optimized for a while after launch. Updates have fixed the game since, but blindly throwing money in before the product goes live is becoming an increasingly bad idea--looking at you, Driveclub, Halo: The Master Chief Collection, and Assassin's Creed Unity.
